Silver Birch & Wellingtonia

I recently went to the Ancient Tree Forum’s annual conference in Suffolk and Norfolk.  This picture was taken at one of the conference venues at Lynford Hall Hotel, Mundford in Norfolk.  There are rows of beautiful Wellingtonia trees in the grounds but sadly quite a few have been felled (not sure of the reasons).  It’s interesting to see that Silver Birches have taken root in and over some of these stumps.  I wonder if they were planted intentionally or have rooted themselves? There is a black and white version of this image on my Facebook page or on Flickr
